All academically eligible students in grades 6-8 are able to audition for the Cast. Cast sizes normally range from 30-50 roles including lead, supporting, and ensemble characters. We will occasionally "double cast" (two students sharing one role)
but not very often.
We believe in casting based strictly on talent presented in the audition. Every role is open to every grade and every student. Seniority does not factor into casting decisions. It is possible for sixth graders and first-timers to be cast in lead roles. Unfortunately, we cannot offer roles to everyone who auditions. The rehearsal process can be intense and demanding. Rehearsals run for 2 hours each, 3 days a week. Closer to the show, rehearsals run as long as 5 hours each, 5 days a week.
Middle school can be a tumultuous time. Tilden Drama provides a safe and welcoming environment where students can build confidence and self-esteem, develop a strong and disciplined work ethic, and form long-lasting positive relationships all while exploring and creating theater and music.
